MBL Secures No-Cause Verdict in Challenging 36th District PIP Jury Trial
May 9, 2026
Yesterday in Detroit’s 36th District Court, MBL Co-Managing Partner Marc McDonald, along with Partner Jillian Peterson, successfully obtained a complete no-cause verdict in a contested PIP trial in one of the busiest trial courts in the country — and a venue widely viewed as challenging for defendants in civil litigation matters.
Following a multi-day jury trial that combined two separate cases against K Family Dentistry and Rodnick Chiropractic, the jury returned a verdict of No-Cause of action in favor of MBL’s insurance client.
The case involved aggressively contested liability and damages issues, with plaintiff’s counsel presenting a passionate case on behalf of his client. Plaintiff’s counsel was seeking maximum jurisdictional monetary limits in both cases, plus attorney fees. Despite those efforts, the jury ultimately concluded that the plaintiff failed to meet the legal burden required for recovery.
“This verdict reflects the importance of preparation, credibility, and allowing the facts to guide the outcome,” McDonald said. “We appreciate the jury’s thoughtful attention throughout the proceedings.”
The result underscores that juries in Detroit continue to evaluate cases independently and based on the evidence presented. This is Marc McDonald’s 20th straight PIP trial win and his 23rd of 24th win.
