Jennifer Rickabaugh leads MBL’s property claims practice, bringing more than 25 years of insurance industry experience, including 15 years as in-house counsel and staff attorney for a property insurer. Her background spans corporate counsel, coverage analysis, litigation, special investigations, and claims advising, giving her a comprehensive understanding of how insurers evaluate, manage, and defend property claims.

Jennifer handles residential and commercial property losses involving fire, water, wind, theft, and business interruption. Her practice includes complex disputes concerning appraisal, valuation, policy exclusions, suspected fraud, and disputed causation. Drawing on her experience inside a property insurer, she connects legal analysis with the practical demands of claims handling to develop strategies aligned with clients’ needs.

Her experience extends to the policy language and regulatory framework underlying insurance coverage. Jennifer has authored policy language approved by the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) and handled DIFS complaints and disputes. Her combined experience in policy drafting, coverage interpretation, claims advising, and litigation informs both her representation of insurers and her leadership of MBL’s property claims practice.

Jennifer regularly presents to insurance clients, industry associations, and professional groups on property claims and coverage issues. She conducts trainings designed to help claims professionals navigate complex losses, recognize potential disputes, and make informed claims decisions. She is available to develop tailored training programs addressing clients’ specific needs.

In addition to her property and coverage practice, Jennifer represents insurers, self-insured corporations, and businesses in civil litigation, including first-party automobile No-Fault claims, third-party automobile negligence, and Michigan Assigned Claims Plan (MACP) servicing insurer defense and subrogation matters.
