Jason W. BaasManaging Partner
Jason Baas serves as Co-Managing Partner of McDonald Baas & Livingston, PLLC, bringing more than 20 years of experience in insurance defense and trial advocacy. A respected leader in the insurance defense community, Jason combines a distinguished courtroom record with the strategic perspective required to lead a law firm. As a member of the MBL Executive Board, he helps guide MBL’s growth, develop its attorneys, and align firm operations with the evolving needs of insurance clients.

Jason has built his reputation defending medically complex cases involving substantial damages and high financial exposure. His practice spans first- and third-party automobile claims, premises liability, insurance coverage, governmental defense, contract disputes, and construction accidents. He combines rigorous preparation with the ability to translate complex medical and technical evidence into clear, persuasive arguments.

His notable trial results include a no-cause verdict in a Wayne County PIP case involving more than $1 million in claimed damages and four surgeries, including three spinal fusions. The seven-day trial featured 23 witnesses, including 13 medical and biomechanical experts. After approximately 30 minutes of deliberations, the jury found that the plaintiff had not sustained an injury from the alleged accident. The result earned front-page coverage in Michigan Lawyers Weekly.

Jason also secured a no-cause verdict for a self-insured governmental entity facing a $2.5 million demand, then recovered more than $30,000 in post-judgment sanctions for the client. In another significant result, he obtained a no-cause verdict for a national insurance carrier following a seven-day PIP trial in Oakland County Circuit Court involving more than $1 million in claimed damages. These results demonstrate his ability to guide clients through demanding litigation and deliver meaningful outcomes when the stakes are high.

His influence extends beyond his own practice through contributions to legal publications and presentations to insurance clients and industry audiences, including at the Insurance Alliance of Michigan and ICLE. Through these roles and his work, Jason shares the experience and judgment that have made him a trusted resource for clients and colleagues.

In 2026, Jason represented MBL in connection with the firm’s Michigan Lawyers Weekly Law Firm Excellence in Innovation recognition, reflecting his leadership in a firm committed to advancing how legal services are delivered.
